A grin slowly spread across Genesis’s face as she thought back to the evening that the gentleman had asked for the chair. How does he know where I work? It had been several months back, so she couldn’t clearly picture what he looked like. She did remember that he was smart and handsome, though.

“Ah . . . there’s the Cheshire Cat grin. So, who is he?” Karilyn probed.

Genesis shrugged and she bent slightly to fill her nostrils with the scent of tiger lilies. “I don’t know,” she said semitruthfully.

Karilyn gave her a sly grin. “Oh, you can’t fool me, missy, not with that big smile on your face. You just don’t wanna tell me.”

“No, seriously, I don’t know.” Genesis picked up her bag and purse and transferred them to her desk. “What is going on here this morning?” she said, switching the focus away from the flowers. She took a seat at her desk and quickly logged in to her computer.

“Not much. A few girls called in, the paychecks arrived . . . I was busy going through the customer comment cards right when you came in.” Karilyn fanned her face with her hand. “Whew, I feel a hot flash coming on.” Her face began turning bright red as her other hand pulled at the front of her blouse in an effort to send cool air to her chest. “Anyway, let me get back to doing those. Did you need anything from me?”

“No, I’m good,” Genesis replied, still smiling, rereading the card.

“Okay, well, I’ll be at my desk if you need anything.” Karilyn disappeared, leaving a gloating Genesis to herself. She took a seat at her desk and one at a time, trying to alter her handwriting and the ink color, completed ten customer comment cards, listing a slew of complaints on each one of them.
